HOISINGTON — Hoisington scored three second-half touchdowns and a stout defense sparked an opening 26-8 Central Kansas League football victory over Hillsboro.

Brody Pfannenstiel's 2-yard touchdown followed Parker Turner's 38-yard run for a 6-0 halftime lead. The Cardinals missed a chance to score after going inside the 5-yard line right before halftime.

Hoisington scored a trio of second-half touchdowns and rushed for 290 yards.

The Cardinals' Preston Merlau scored on a 6-yard run and Drake Martin followed with a perfectly executed 44-yard cutback run for a 20-0 lead after Logan Cossel's 2-point reception from Kolter Hahn.

Hahn added the clinching touchdown on a 8-yard run for a 26-8 final.

"Hillsboro has good athletes and made us earn everything," said Hoisington coach Zach Baird. "The offensive line did some nice things. Quarterback Kolter Hahn did nice things in his first start.

The Cardinals yielded a 6-yard touchdown pass to Brayson Amstutz from Zayne Hazlett.

"It was ugly and we found a way when we didn't execute offensively," Baird said. "Defensively, we played well. I know our guys will work to get better as a football team."
