HAYS — Hays converted two goals after Panther fouls to engineer a 4-0 victory over Great Bend in Thursday's Western Athletic Conference soccer showdown.

Mason Shadley converted a 25-yard twisting free kick (28:55) after a Panther foul. Shadley triggered the Indians' fourth goal on a restart after a foul.

Hays High's Ivan Maldonado and Dylan Gregg also converted first-half goals for the Indians (10-3-2, 5-2-1 WAC). Brecken Otte scored the Indians' second-half goal. Goalie Cedric Durr earned his sixth shutout.

No. 18 West seed Great Bend (2-13-1, 0-7-1 WAC) misses postseason play for the third consecutive season. The Panthers ride into 2027 with a 40-game winless streak in the WAC.

Great Bend's tied Garden City 2-2 Oct. 12 on Dustin Fugitt's goal to snap a 36-match league losing streak that's lasted five years. The Panthers defeated Liberal 3-2 Oct. 18, 2021, the last time Great Bend won a game.
