Great Bend captured back-to-back Western Athletic Conference softball titles as Great Bend relief pitcher Chayla Prendergast worked out of a bases-loaded jam to preserve a doubleheader sweep over Garden City 13-3 and 12-6 Friday.

PANTHERS 13, GARDEN CITY 3 (G1) — Panthers Denver Ringo and Kya Behr homered to spark a 10-hit attack.

PANTHERS 12, GARDEN CITY 6 (G2) — Prendergast struck out two batters and retired a third batter on a groundout to preserve a 9-6 lead. Prendergast delivered a 3-run sixth-inning homer for a 12-6 victory.

Panther starter Braelyn Turner (10-0) yielded a season high six earned runs with seven walks and a hit batter.

Feels good to be WAC champs! 22 girls show up every day and push eachother to be better! They are accountable to eachother and it makes a huge impact! Happy for thid group

That was a huge moment… Chayla has nerves of steel, and can come in, and work her way out of some pickles.. on the bench i told her that if she gets in, its gonna be a sticky situation, and she literally said, “Coach its okay, I got it…” i love that about her!! Then she got herself pretty fired up, and hits a three run bomb in the bottom half!! Kid is the ultimate competitor… going to do big things in Corpus Christi! - but fortunately for yhe Panther softball program, we get her another season first!!

Swanson has a gift, no moment is too big… shes just going to go out and get her cuts… its a nothing to looose mentality… and it works for her!! I love it, and to see the big smile after… priceless!! I think she is 4-4 coming off the bench and producing! Thats hard to do!!

Our offense is pretty darn strong 1-9…. Theres not a soft spot, no where an opposing pitcher can take a batter off… when we get a head of steam, we can rattle off 5-6-7 hits in a row…

I was happy for Kya today, she had been struggling at the plate, we dropped her in the lineup three spots, and she accepted the challenge and hit the ball extremely well!

Its great to see the things you work on daily equate to plays and outs!! I was proud of our outfield work today, their communication and angles were top knotch!!

Garden is a very good hitting team, and for our pitchers to shut them down the way they did, is a testament to how hard they have been working!! Every game is about lessons, and Garden hurt us with their bats, when our pitchers fell behind in counts, and had to feed the plate with hitters pitches… we will work hard this week, getting ahead early in counts, so we can effectively attack batters and get them swinging defensively…

Great crowd tonight! The Fanbase is growing, we sure like it when the stands are packed!! These girls are super fun to watch, and just a joy to be around!! They have so much energy and enthusiasm!
