Great Bend Police Chief Steve Haulmark issued a news release about two arrests this week.

On Oct. 17 at approximately 9:47 a.m., officers with the Great Bend Police Department were dispatched to the 3700 block of 22nd St. in reference to a disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers contacted a male subject who reported that, during an argument with his roommate, Dakota Payne, a 28-year-old white male, Payne threatened to cause great bodily harm to him and another individual.

The parties were separated before any injuries occurred. Payne was arrested on a charge of criminal threat and booked into the Barton County Jail in lieu of bond.

On Oct. 19 at approximately 6:57 a.m., officers with the Great Bend Police Department responded to the 2100 block of 25th Street, to serve an active arrest warrant on Nathaniel Fields, a 27-year-old black male, for violation of Kansas Offender Registration requirements. Officers contacted Fields at the front door of the residence. Upon being advised that he was under arrest, Fields allegedly resisted by attempting to close the door on officers and retreat into the residence. Officers gained entry and took Fields into custody.

During the arrest, officers observed suspected contraband in plain view, which led to a search warrant being obtained for the residence. During the subsequent search, officers recovered items Fields was prohibited from possessing based on his offender status, as well as marijuana. Fields was arrested for violation of Kansas Offender Registration, battery on a law enforcement officer, felony interference, contempt of court and possession of marijuana. Additional charges may be forthcoming. Fields was booked into the Barton County Jail and held without bond at the time of booking.

These are both ongoing investigations. Anyone with information on this case or any other case is encouraged to contact the Great Bend Police Department at 620-793-4120, Barton County Crime Stoppers at 620-792-1300 or online atp3tips.com.
