Traffic stop leads to arrest

The Barton County Sheriff’s Office reported that a traffic stop resulted in a suspect’s arrest on drug charges on Saturday, May 9. According to reports, at approximately 6:03 p.m., deputies observed a 2003 Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling in the 300 block of SE 60 Ave without displaying a registration plate. Deputies conducted a traffic stop in the next block and identified the driver as Frederick Kopke II.

Sheriff’s K-9 Menta alerted to the odor of illegal narcotics. Suspected methamphetamine, along with a 9 mm firearm and drug paraphernalia, was located.

Frederick Kopke II was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal use of a weapon, no registration, and no insurance. Bond was set at $10,000 cash/surety.

Kopke was also booked on a Barton County District Court warrant with no bond.
